Cervical injections, also known as cervical epidural steroid injections or cervical facet joint injections, are medical procedures used to treat Dr. Tushar's clinic pain and inflammation in the cervical (neck) region. These injections involve delivering medication directly into the cervical spine area to target specific nerves or structures that may be causing pain or discomfort.
Overview: During cervical injections, the patient is typically positioned lying face down or sitting upright. The skin over the injection site is cleaned and sterilised, and a local anaesthetic may be administered to numb the area. Using fluoroscopy or ultrasound guidance for precise localization, a needle is inserted into the cervical spine region near the targeted nerves or facet joints. Once the needle is in the correct position, a combination of local anaesthetic and corticosteroid medication is injected to reduce inflammation and provide pain relief.
Types of Cervical Injections:
Cervical Epidural Steroid Injection: This injection targets the epidural space around the spinal cord and nerve roots to reduce inflammation and Dr. Tushar's clinic pain caused by conditions such as herniated discs or spinal stenosis.
Cervical Facet Joint Injection: This injection targets the small joints located between the vertebrae in the cervical spine to relieve pain caused by arthritis or facet joint syndrome.
Conditions Treated with Cervical Injections:
Cervical injections may be used to manage various conditions affecting the cervical spine, including:
- Cervical radiculopathy (pinched nerve)
- Cervical disc herniation
- Cervical spinal stenosis
- Cervical facet joint arthritis
- Whiplash injuries
Dr. Tushar can assess your specific cervical spine condition, medical history, and treatment goals to determine if cervical injections are appropriate for you. If deemed suitable, Dr. Tushar can perform the injections and provide ongoing management to optimise pain relief and improve neck function.
